Oasis of the Seas Facts: Info on One of the World's Biggest Cruise Ships

cruise oasis of seas

Oasis of the Seas — or what Royal Caribbean likes to refer to as the original “game-changer” — is a nickname is well-earned. The ship is the first of the Oasis-class vessels in Royal Caribbean’s fleet, representing the largest cruise liners on the planet. In fact, outside of this class of ships, there is nothing that even comes close to the size. Bionic Bar replaced Champagne Bar (deck 5 midship-starboard). "Clash for the Crystal City" is a new laser tag game played at Studio B's Ice Rink (deck 3). Each of the ship’s neighborhoods has its own vibe and activities, and most passengers will be hard pressed to feel like they’ve done it all after a week-long sailing.

Each night, my stateroom attendant replenished towels and brought flyers and schedules for the next day.

The ship departed on its first sailing on December 5, 2009, after being christened on November 30, 2009, by seven different godmothers. If you're short on time, steer clear of the Rising Tide bar on the Royal Promenade. This novelty bar, which levitates on hydraulics and travels between decks, is a fun concept, but ultimately it's overrated.

And the ice skating rink — while offering a chance for passengers to skate — is used primarily for ice shows. Let’s begin with the massive pool decks at the top of the ship. Starting at the back, you’ll find the dual FlowRiders, offering standing waves. Right nearby is the Ultimate Abyss, a dry slide that takes you spinning down to the Boardwalk below.

Oasis Of The Seas ship related cruise news

Like all Royal Caribbean cruise ships, Oasis of the Seas provides complimentary childcare programming through the ship’s Adventure Ocean program. As a plus, Oasis of the Seas has the updated version of Adventure Ocean, which gives more flexibility in activities and enhanced play spaces for passengers 6 months to 17 years old. During her 2019 amplification, The Lime & Coconut was added to the pool deck of Oasis of the Seas. Pool Deck (deck 15) was completely renovated and redesigned, also receiving "The Lime and Coconut" (2-level poolside bar/first added on Navigator OTS). The new venue offers beverages (including cocktails), DJ, and live outdoor music performances. Swimming pools' sunbathing areas received more shaded seating, including daybeds, hammocks, swing seats, casitas (small wooden cabins).

One unique activity here is a zipline that will carry you across the open split in the ship and over the Boardwalk. Activities on the ShipWith so much space on Oasis of the Seas, you’d expect there to be plenty to do. In fact, we think it’s a good thing the ship normally sails longer itineraries as just a few days isn’t enough to experience everything. Public areas throughout the ship, including the Royal Promenade, are wide and spacious — almost cavernous. While other ships in the fleet have a similar promenade setup, the size and space provided on Oasis is like nothing else. Combined, that makes Oasis-class ships like this one different from anything else in cruising.

That means even if you’ve sailed other ships — including other types in the Royal Caribbean fleet — you haven’t had the same experience as sailing on Oasis of the Seas. One of the largest ships in the world, Oasis of the Seas makes an impression even before you board; the mega-ship looms above its counterparts. Whether you fill your day with high-energy thrills or lots of laid-back lounging, eventually you’re going to work up an appetite.

Bring On The Laughs At The Ship’s Comedy Club

As for bars, there are plenty all over the ship, so it’s never too far from a drink. Two that will definitely catch your eye are Bionic Bar and Rising Tide. Of course the main dining room and Windjammer buffet are staples for most people during your cruise. These spots are included with your fare, making them popular. Other included meals are El Loco Fresh (Mexican food), the Solarium Bistro (smaller buffet), Boardwalk Dog House (hot dogs), Park Cafe (small eats and breakfast), and Sorrento’s (pizza).

A pub, Latin bar, jazz club, and other venues can be found throughout the ship. There is an abundance of food to enjoy on any Royal Caribbean cruise ship, but especially on an Oasis Class ship. Oasis of the Seas boasts over 20 locations to grab a bite to eat, from burritos at El Loco Fresh to upscale dining at 150 Central Park.

For instance, two of our favorite spots on the ship were the Solarium and Central Park. The Solarium offers plenty of space and feels a world away from the rest of the ship. It’s nice to be able to relax quietly without tons of music or huge crowds. During our sailing aboard Oasis of the Seas, we became big fans of the ship. To us, it’s the perfect mix of relaxation while also having so much to do that you can’t get bored, even on a longer cruise.

If some of the onboard activities on this list piqued your interest, keep in mind that there’s plenty more to see and do onboard Oasis of the Seas. In 2019, Oasis of the Seas received a $165 million amplification to modernize the ship. New dining and bar venues, a revamped pool deck, updated kids programming, and new activities were just some of the changes made to the ship. Due to the amplification, Oasis of the Seas feels new and refreshed despite being almost 14 years old. Then there’s the new The Perfect Storm — not one, not two, but three waterslides, named Typhoon, Cyclone and Supercell.

As my son preaches, just enjoy and appreciate the moment rather than determining to get the perfect photo. For serious runners/walkers it’s great and actually much better than any other ship I’ve sailed. If you just want to get your miles in for the day, its perfect.

By the Jogging Track (aft on Deck 5/Promenade) there are several small seating areas fitted with all-weather Adirondack chairs (positioned near the railings). "Small wonders" are called a total of 42x telescope-like devices (positioned throughout the ship) displaying tiny 3D art pieces. The Perfect Storm is a 3-deck high waterslide complex (deck 18 entry, down to deck 15 exit /Beach Pool) which consists of the spiraling race-slides “Cyclone”, “Typhoon” and “Supercell”. Follows the complete list of Oasis of the Seas restaurants and food bars. A total of 24 elevators (12x forward + 12x aft) provide access all the way to deck 16, while decks 17 and 18 are accessed by 6 lifts.

And if you’re more about chill vibes, the ship offers plenty of areas to kick back and relax — like the adults-only Solarium, the Library & Card Room and Vitality Spa℠. With so many cool things to see and do onboard, knowing where to start can seem a bit overwhelming. So I’ve outlined ten of my favorite things to do onboard to help get your vacation-planning mojo flowing.

No matter what you’re in the mood for, you can likely find it on Oasis of the Seas. Balcony staterooms are further split into spa-centric balcony staterooms and boardwalk-view balcony staterooms. The former gives you spa-inspired amenities, while the latter gives you a view of all the action.

However, while there are a number of spots that serve small bites and snacks, most meals outside the dining room are specialty restaurants that carry an extra charge. Food & BeverageWhat’s a cruise without a bite to eat and something to drink? Given the size, there are numerous restaurants, covering all types of cuisines and atmosphere. Shows here feature swimmers and dancers doing moves in the pool. Slackline performers bounce and flip on their lines above the water.
